Beyond today: from DP X to AI.
The production of tomorrow’s graphic industries is already here with the new version of the Logica MES: the DPX.
DATA PRODUCTION X
We have always anticipated the events in our industry: in 2009 we developed the full bidirectional interaction between MIS and machines, anticipating the industry 4.0 by many many years.
In 2018, our DataProduction was already able to detect the electrical consumption per production area/services and even by job order, still anticipating Industry 5.0, which officially appeared on the scene in 2024, several years after.
We are now working to anticipate the “tomorrow’s print shop” completely changing the paradigm of Artificial Intelligence usage.
Everyone is talking about A.I., but this new industrial revolution—because that’s exactly what it is—cannot simply be installed and activated overnight. It requires foresight and careful preparation. Think about it.
The first item on the “to do list” was to rewrite our DataProduction System, at the base of the GCP MES, to increase its performance, as this is the prerequisite needed by A.I. algorithms and high computing power required.
IN SHORT…
DataProduction has been moved on the new “Angular” platform, technology known for its super performance on highly complex and interactive web applications. This granted a significant response time reduction, adding even more fluidity to the system.
New functionalities have been implemented and interoperability between the system’s modules improved. All gathered in a completely redesigned HMI (Human – Machine Interface).
- Easier perception of what’s happening at production floor, thanks to simplified real-time monitoring of machines status. The plant manager can configure his/her preference on which units to keep under constant monitoring, hiding others and keeping his/her eyes pointed on the core situation.
- Additional functionalities, such as warning on over – or under-produced quantities, per machine and per job.
- Easier read out of all job-related info, reorganized for immediate catch-up on time, speed, quantity and materials. Further to that, a gauge shows how far/how close production speed is compared with expectations for single component and when this part of the process is expected to end, as to prewarn the next department, thus saving time in machines preparation.
- You can see at a glance who is working on which resource, what’s the running job operated and the time consumed.
- Instant generation of a report that compares, for each job, the difference between expected (from MIS/ERP) and effective (actual from production floor).
Can you see it? You will know right away if each job was performed as expected, and if it wasn’t, you will immediately find out why, to make sure you know how to do it profitably the next time. - KPIs and O.E.E. dynamically displayed, with direct access to all the information that generates them with an easy drill-down mode. The same goes for energy consumption, which can be reported by department, services and, now even more important, by job.
OUR ROAD TO AI…
All of this is what it is now, our present solution, but let us give you a glimpse of the early future thanks to the implemented A.I. algorithms, which we are already beta testing at few selected clients.
DPX Eyerus Vision
Integrated into DPX Check Quality Auto, we have developed DPX Eyerus Vision.
Self-learning error detection system to monitor the entire production flow using computer vision system, covering individual printed sheets, from printing to finishing and binding.
DPX Vision will be submitted to a master sheet and, thanks to its cameras placed properly on each machine in the productive cycle, will self-detecting any difference from the good sheet, warning the operator about it. This system takes quality control to upper, unexpected level.
DATA CONTROL MONITOR
Logica GPC MES already does a constant comparison between “expected (from MIS/ERP)” and “actual (from the production department).”
Data Control Monitor will focus on data yet to be validated, by providing support during the validation process. It will analyze these processes by recognizing and reporting dissimilarities from the expected, within the range set in the system. Then, it will send a notification to the user, allowing him/her to make the necessary changes.
A tool designed to guarantee an accurate and clean database, to use as reliable source of data feeding our Artificial Intelligence algorithms.
OUR TOMORROW
Optimization of the production schedule, based on historical data stored in the MES and the best behavior of machines and personnel on similar job orders.
Thanks to specific algorithms, the system will self-learn the best combination of technical and human resources to schedule and produce each new job entering the system; in fact, after a period of self-learning, the predictive scheduling system will start suggesting the best combination team/machine to reach the best possible performance to produce that specific job order.
